Upon my arrival at Shanghai Maple Leaf International School, I was immediately captivated by its unique faculty and distinctive educational philosophy, filling me with eager anticipation for the future academic life. Time flies, and now as graduation approaches, this experience will forever accompany my growth, leaving an indelible mark on my heart.
At the beginning of my enrollment, faced with a completely new learning environment and the challenges of intensive English courses, I dared not slack off in the slightest. Through relentless effort, I successfully entered the Maple Leaf World Schools Program in my first year of high school. The learning model here was entirely different from middle school—apart from Chinese courses, the fully English-taught curriculum placed extremely high demands on my language skills. To adapt, I immersed myself in English study, striving to improve my listening, speaking, reading, and writing abilities. After two semesters of hard work in my freshman year, I gradually adjusted to high school life, and my academic performance steadily improved.
Driven by my passion for photography, I founded the Photography Club in my first year and later established the Maple Leaf Photography Studio. While learning photography, I repeatedly practiced different compositions and shooting techniques on campus. Sometimes, I even went out after meals just to capture the perfect sunset shot. After the studio was established, we produced many high-quality promotional videos for the school. At the same time, we continuously refined our photography and editing skills. I also worked hard to improve my leadership abilities. As the saying goes, "If a problem can't be solved immediately, let it simmer for a while before tackling it all at once." Whenever I encountered an unsolvable issue, I would seek advice from those around me, and they often provided fresh perspectives or solutions.
In my second year, I had the honor of joining the 10th Zhou Enlai Class. During our oath-taking ceremony, we recited Premier Zhou Enlai’s inspiring words: "Study for the rise of China." His devotion to the people, selfless dedication, and tireless work ethic deeply moved me. Joining the Zhou Enlai Class was no easy feat—it required high standards in academics, character, and social engagement. Although I was not particularly skilled in public speaking or debate, I was determined to embody Zhou Enlai’s spirit in my own way, contributing behind the scenes to my class and school.
After entering the Zhou Enlai Class, I had more opportunities to participate in major school events, such as the New Year’s Gala, flag-raising ceremonies, sports meets, and the 10th-anniversary celebration of the school’s founding. In these activities, I leveraged my photography expertise, working with the studio team to document every memorable moment. From pre-event shooting plans to capturing dynamic angles on the day, we aimed to perfectly present the essence of each occasion through visuals. This not only honed my technical skills but also deepened my appreciation for teamwork and cohesion—every photo and video was a product of collective effort.
Throughout my time at Maple Leaf, the companionship of friends and brothers was indispensable. They guided me in academics, stood by me in club activities, and brought warmth and laughter to my daily life, ensuring I never felt alone on my journey of growth. Looking back on high school, what I gained was not just knowledge and skills but, more importantly, a spirit of exploration. Whether in studies, club activities, or daily life, I constantly faced and solved problems, learning to approach difficulties with proactive and diverse solutions. This mindset will become a priceless asset in my future studies and career.
As this chapter of my life draws to a close, I realize that many more opportunities and challenges lie ahead. I will carry forward the spirit of exploration I discovered at Maple Leaf, along with my passion for photography, my understanding of Zhou Enlai’s legacy, and the warmth and strength my friends have given me. With courage, I will step into the next journey, bringing my love for photography into my work and applying my exploratory spirit to social practice. I will strive to shine in the field I am passionate about and write an even more brilliant chapter of life.
